About Us

Chef Jason

Growing up in a military family taught me long term core values of hard work and dedication. I lived abroad for most of my childhood, moving to Washington in 1987 and graduating from Meadowdale HS in 1992.  My own stint in the Navy instilled high personal standards and work ethic.  My father eventually retired from the Navy and my brother, Eric, is still serving active duty in the Marine Corp. 

With nearly 20 years of professional culinary work history in a variety of upscale restaurants, I’ve worked in the kitchen at every level, from washing dishes, doing prep work up to Head Chef.  I lived and worked in Kitsap County the last 15 years developing my skills, specializing in private parties, large events and Farm to Table, sourcing local meat, seafood and produce. I currently work at Salt & Iron, I love working with the S&I team, their enthusiasm and great positive attitude inspire me to be a better cook and chef. 

I met Jen and Chambers in 2017 at The Loft where I quickly moved up to the Chef’s position.  There was an instant connection with Chambers.  I had just started there and had missed the last nightly ferry home to Kitsap.  I didn’t have a place to stay and Chambers said “I’ve got you, stay at my place”.  We quickly recognized in each other a dedication to the job and the restaurant industry.

 

My love of the Northwest and all of the extraordinary bounty we have here carries over into my personal life as I’m an avid skier and outdoorsman.  I love to cook and I love to eat, I’m very excited to bring my talents as Chef at Calypso.
